About the Divas...

Amber

Amber Dickinson

Amber is a PhD candidate at the University of Kansas who is currently serving as an Adawe Advisor and Instructer in Arts and Sciences at Ottawa University. Sheenjoys volunteering at Theatre Lawrence, spending time with friends, and playing with her dog Buster Brown. Amber is thankful for the performance opportunities she has had at Theatre Lawrence, and some of her favorite roles include: Velma Kelly in Chicago, ugly Stepsister Joy in Cinderella, and Tood Cliffort in The Cover of Life.

Julie

Julie Dunlap

Julie, a humor columnist for the Lawrence Journal-World, is thrilled to perform in her worldwide singing debut. Yep, she has never sung publicly before and assures all other Gen-Xers who once aspired to take their one-woman Go-Go's act to the stage that dreams really do come true (and then morph into "I'm giving a speech in front of my class and realize I am naked" kind of nightmares as opening night draws near). The ultimate Diva Mom, Julie wrote both songs she is performing tonight. She gives tremendous thanks to Dave, Ellie, Amelia, Luke, Caroline, her parents and Sara Stotts and Laura McCorkhill.

Geneé

Genée Figuieras

Genée  is a Lawrence native and a dental hygienist in Lawrence.  She has been performing since age 11 when she appeared in a KU production of Annie.  She has performed in and crewed many Theatre Lawrence productions since she was 17, including roles in Camelot, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Cole, Reunion, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Secret Garden, Annie Get Your Gun, Crazy for You and Shout!  She also has appeared in Topeka and Kansas City theatre productions, commercials and voiceovers, and sings in churches in Lawrence and Topeka.

Susan

Susan Hash-Hires

Susan is a native of Wisconsin and very nearly has a degree in Voice from KU. She is happy to have returned to Lawrence after a 20-year "Texile" in Austin, where she and husband Don raised their two daughters, also singers- heaven help them. Susan has sung professionally in Austin with the choral group Conspirare and with the Austin Lyric Opera. She is a choral conductor, (currently at Highland Park Methodist in Topeka) clinician and voice teacher who feels fortunate every day to have such a wonderful group of private students here in Lawrence. She is expanding her teaching hours, so yes, there's room for new students! Since returning to the most wonderful city on earth, Susan has been in three productions at Theatre Lawrence, "Curtains", "How I Became a Pirate" and most recently as Martha in "White Christmas".

Patty

Patty McGrew

Patty studied voice at Munich Hochschule fuer Musik on a Fulbright scholarship in the late 1960's, and then in the early 70’s performed at the Berner Stadttheater, the Wiener Voksoper, Stadttheater Baden, Raimond Theater and was part of the ZDF(TV) production of Boccaccio.   Her favorite roles were Zerlina in Don Giovanni and Norina in Don Pasqual.  She says she hasn't sung much since becoming a Lawrence Realtor in 1984.

Melia

Melia Stockham

Melia Stockham is a Lawrence native who has been a part of the Theatre Lawrence family since 2008 serving as a performer, choreographer, and backstage volunteer. Some of her favorite roles have included an ugly step-sister in Cinderella, the "Green Girl" in SHOUT! and most recently, Liza Minelli, Ethel Merman, Bernadette Peters and many other zany characters in Forbidden Broadway. When she isn't at TL she is a corporate trainer for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas and is pursuing her PhD in Management Education.

Stacy

Stacy Stringer Walters

Stacy was born and raised in Lawrence and became part of the Lawrence music scene at a young age. Aside from school theater productions and choir, she first took the stage at the age of 13 with her dad's band performing at such local venues as the Jazzhaus, Bottleneck and Lied Center. With an appreciation for all genres of music, she currently sings with the Jazzhaus Big Band, a classic country/rockabilly band and a 70s/80s rock band. In her "real" life, Stacy is a Senior Program Manager with KU Continuing Education. When she's not singing, she enjoys spending time with her two sons, ages 9 and 5.
