Characters

TONY WENDICE

Male, 30s–50s

Charming, confident, and dangerous. Used to winning and staying in control. Smart, manipulative, and always playing a long game. Needs someone who can be smooth on the surface with real menace underneath. Margot's husband, and a failed writer now working for Maxine Hadley.

MARGOT WENDICE

Female, 30s–50s

Elegant and emotionally layered. Poised and upper-class. Margot is emotionally conflicted because of a former affair with Maxine. This role requires emotional range and the ability to hold tension without being flashy.

MAXINE HADLEY

Female, 30s–50s

Smart, funny, and fearless. A crime novelist with sharp instincts and great timing. Confident, observant, and not easily impressed. Brings humor and intelligence to the story. Margot’s former lover.

INSPECTOR HUBBARD

Male, 40s–60s

A seasoned, calm, quietly razor-sharp detective. Appears unassuming but is always ahead of the room.

LESGATE

Male, 30s–50s

Nervous, desperate, and in over his head. An old acquaintance of Tony with a criminal past. Not as clever as he thinks he is, which Tony intends to exploit.
