October is about to get LOUD at Theatre Lawrence.

We’re calling it ROCK-tober, because three very different events are bringing big guitars, unforgettable music, and plenty of rock ’n’ roll attitude to our stage. Whether your musical memories were made in the ’90s, you’re a fan of Broadway’s biggest rock anthems, or you like your theatre dark, edgy, and loud, there’s something coming your way.

So turn up the volume and get ready for a month of music, theatre, and a whole lot of ROCK!

CHASING NIRVANA

October 2 & 3

We’re kicking off ROCK-tober by heading straight back to the 1990s.

Chasing Nirvana is a nostalgic, music-filled original musical about Presley Martin, an awkward young musician chasing her dreams of becoming the next Nirvana while navigating love, identity, and the rocky road to finding herself.

Packed with catchy ’90s alt-rock music, humor, heart, and enough pop-culture nostalgia to make you want to dust off your flannel, this is the debut musical from Theatre Lawrence’s Striving Artists project.

It’s a story about finding out who you are—and what happens when the dreams you’re chasing take you somewhere you never expected.

Theatre Lawrence Benefit Concert — October 9

One week later, we’re turning the volume WAY up.

Our annual benefit concert, Don’t Stop Me Now!, brings the energy of a live rock concert to Theatre Lawrence with powerhouse vocalists and a killer live band performing some of Broadway’s biggest rock anthems.

Expect music from shows including RENT, HAIR, Rock of Ages, Jesus Christ Superstar and more. In other words, this is not your grandmother’s Broadway concert.

And while the music will be the star of the show, the evening is also about supporting the future of Theatre Lawrence. The event will feature a special Raise the Paddle supporting The Penguin Project and our education programs, along with raffle packages and plenty of opportunities to celebrate the work happening right here in our community.

Come for the music. Stay for the fun. And help us keep Theatre Lawrence rocking for the next 50 years!

LIZZIE

October 22–24

ROCK-tober gets darker toward the end of the month.

Lizzie takes the infamous story of Lizzie Borden and turns it into an electrifying rock musical that is part gothic thriller, part rock concert—and completely unlike anything else on our 2026–2027 season.

Fueled by a blistering rock score, Lizzie is packed with scandal, suspicion, rebellion, and fierce theatrical energy. It’s dark, daring, and unapologetically edgy as it explores the legend of the woman accused of murdering her father and stepmother with an axe.

If you like your musical theatre with a little more volume, a lot more attitude, and a decidedly darker edge, this one is for you.
