No time to slow down
Overheard at this week’s staff meeting: “I thought things were going to slow down once October was over.” Slow down? Not possible!
Rock-tober was packed with activity for our community. We celebrated new work with the inaugural Louise ImMasche Striving Artists production, Chasing Nirvana. Our annual benefit concert supported not only our general operations but also our education programs, including the Penguin Project for youth with special needs. There were a lot more than 40 whacks as the edgy musical Lizzie thrilled audiences during a nearly sold-out run. And the month wrapped up with the Vintage Players sharing their original fall production.
Of course, those were just the things the general public got to see. There’s a wonderful Wizard (and Toto, too!) getting ready to delight audiences all December. Young performers are hopping on a magic carpet this weekend for Aladdin Kids. And Suitcase Stories, our program that visits area elementary schools and works with students to create original short plays, is in full swing.
We’re also deep into planning for exciting things on the horizon, including our 50th Anniversary Celebration, Songs, Stories, and Standing Ovations. Watch for tickets to go on sale in January! Behind the scenes, several projects, programs, and facility improvements are also underway.
To top it all off, our Marketing Director, Dani DeGarmo, and her husband welcomed their first baby this month!
So, no, we’re not slowing down. And it’s all thanks to our patrons, volunteers, donors, and staff that Theatre Lawrence can enjoyably contemplate the possibility of taking a power nap on maybe Thanksgiving Day before diving into the next creative endeavor. We wouldn't have it any other way!
